TWENTY-FIVE MINUTES WEST ON I-66

RTEC Treecare works out of 2828 Mary St in Falls Church. Centreville sits about 15 miles west of us, straight out I-66, and outside of rush hour it's a 25 minute drive. Add ten or fifteen at the wrong time of day.

Being this close changes what you actually get. An arborist can come look at the tree, walk the property, and give you a real scope instead of a guess over the phone. If a storm takes a limb down across your driveway overnight, the crew heading your way isn't starting from another county. And when a job needs a second visit, whether that's checking a cabled stem or grinding a stump after the removal, getting back out to you isn't a scheduling problem.

THIRTY YEARS OF BUILDING, ALL AT ONCE

Centreville is older than almost anything around it. The Virginia General Assembly established it as a town in 1792, and before that it was known as Newgate after a tavern that stood along the road. It sat at the center of the routes between Alexandria, Georgetown and Leesburg, which is where the name came from.

Then almost nothing happened for a very long time, and then everything happened at once. In 1980 there were 7,473 people here. By 2010 there were 71,135. Today Centreville is the most populous community in Fairfax County, roughly 73,500 people packed into just under 12 square miles.

A little of the old town survived it. The Centreville Historic Overlay District still protects the stretch near Braddock Road and Mount Gilead Road, where Mount Gilead itself has stood since around 1785, and roughly 40,000 troops camped during the Civil War. Everything outside that handful of acres is modern.

That thirty year burst is the whole story for your trees. Little Rocky Run went up as a 950 acre master plan with 2,722 properties, 1,069 of them townhomes. Virginia Run put 1,406 homes across 1,200 acres on much larger lots. Different neighborhoods, different lot sizes, but the same basic timeline: the trees were planted when the houses were finished.

WHAT A ONE-GENERATION CANOPY ASKS FOR

When a whole community gets planted inside one window, it also gets old inside one window. That's why a street here often needs the same work on the same weekend, and why we get calls from three houses in a row.

The specific problems depend on which Centreville you live in. On the townhome side, trees planted 25 or 30 years ago in strips between driveways have run out of soil volume. Roots lift walks and driveway aprons, canopies grow into rooflines and siding, and the tree that was the right size at planting is now too big for the space it was given.

On the larger lots the failures are structural instead. Trees that were spaced generously grew wide, heavy lateral limbs with nothing to lean on. Those are the limbs that come down in a summer storm, usually over something expensive.

Neither situation needs to become an emergency. Structural pruning while a tree is still correctable, root zone work before the hardscape cracks, and an honest ranking of which trees actually need attention first will handle most of a street's worth of problems.

YOU'LL SEE OUR TRUCKS AROUND HERE

We work Centreville regularly enough that our crews pass their own finished jobs on the way to the next one. That matters in a place where 2,700 households share a homeowners association and everybody can see what happened in the yard two doors down. Do a sloppy removal here and the whole cul-de-sac knows by Sunday. We'd rather be the company somebody recommends at the pool.

Why Choose RTEC Treecare for Tree Care Services in Centreville, VA

Your trees add real value to your property — but the risks that come with them deserve just as much attention. Choosing the right tree care company is more important than most homeowners realize. With RTEC Treecare, you get a team that’s built to stand out and give you the confidence you need.

Accreditations & Certifications

RTEC Treecare was the first tree company in Virginia to earn accreditation from the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA), and our team includes multiple ISA-certified arborists through the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA).

A Commitment to Safety

Safety isn’t an afterthought here — it’s the top priority on every job. We keep our crew, our clients, and anyone in the area protected from start to finish. And if a job can’t be done safely? We won’t touch it. Plain and simple.

Zero-Impact Practices

Careless tree work can cause serious damage to homes, landscapes, and hardscapes. That’s why our team relies on high-strength ropes, piece-by-piece removal techniques, and cranes to keep your property protected throughout the entire process.

Industry-Leading Equipment

From bucket trucks, skid steers, and aerial lifts to chainsaws, air spades, and chippers — our crews arrive with professional-grade tools and everything it takes to handle whatever the job requires.

Unmatched Experience

In our 30 years of experience, we’ve built a deep understanding of the trees native to Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC — along with the environmental stressors, pests, and diseases that tend to target them.

Crystal-Clear Communication

From your first call to the final cleanup, RTEC Treecare keeps communication clear and consistent. You can always get ahold of us, and you’ll never be left wondering where things stand with your project.

Licensed & Insured

Unlike some tree service companies that try to cut corners on local rules and regulations, RTEC Treecare maintains all required licenses and comprehensive insurance coverage to make sure you’re fully protected.

RTEC Treecare: Sustainable, Eco-Friendly Tree Care Solutions

Trees don’t exist in isolation. The soil under their roots, the insects around their fruit and flowers, the surrounding environment — it all shapes how they grow and stay healthy. That’s why working with a tree care team that takes environmental responsibility seriously makes all the difference.

That same perspective shapes everything we do. We provide eco-friendly solutions that support long-term tree health while protecting the surrounding landscape. From organic biostimulant applications and soil-nurturing mulch to health-focused pruning techniques, our work is designed to strengthen trees naturally and responsibly.

CER Flinch
Fortunately, I received a postcard in the mail right before we had a tree emergency outside our home. I researched several companies, and was thrilled that I went with RTEC Treecare. Ben did his free consult as advertised - super easy to self-schedule online, and offered honest advice and information - no hard sell. The work had to be postponed once due to weather, but Ben and the other staff kept in touch to keep me posted and reschedule. The team that came out to do the work was professional, wore all the appropriate safety gear, even used a leaf blower and rake to clean up debris in the yard. I would absolutely call them again to take care of my trees.
