Doing the Right Thing

Supporting People & the Planet

For more than 30 years, RTEC Treecare has been providing homeowners, businesses, and government agencies with science-based, environmentally conscious solutions for their plant, tree, and environmental needs.

With an unwavering commitment to excellence and an approach that balances our clients’ needs with planet-friendly practices, our certified arborists, plant health technicians, and environmental specialists deliver the kind of services you — and the planet — deserve.

Five Core Values

Simple Principles That Guide Everything We Do

1. We Do The Right Thing, Always

Honesty, integrity, and character are important traits to seek from any service provider, but they’re especially important when those services impact the safety, health, and well-being of living people, plants, and ecosystems. That’s why we are always committed to doing the right thing, even when it’s not easy.

2. We Make Things Happen

Even simple projects can present challenges — especially for a team that’s not only dedicated to finishing the job but doing so in a manner that serves our clients and the broader planet. But we don’t shy away from this responsibility. We own every project from start to finish and achieve our goals with focus, grit, and determination.

3. We Always Strive to Improve & Grow

Despite the considerable education, training, and expertise the RTEC Treecare professionals bring to the table each day, we understand that growth is critical for our shared success. To that end, we strive to learn new skills, invest in emerging technologies, and continually raise our standards so that we can deliver the highest-quality service possible.

4. We Communicate with Purpose

Communication is a two-way activity, so we speak with clarity and listen with intent. And this not only includes conversations with our clients, but with our team members too. This kind of strong communication builds trust, prevents missteps, and keeps us aligned — because understanding each other allows us to move forward together.

5. We Win Together

Because teams perform best when built on a foundation of empowerment, trust, and mutual respect, we embrace a collaborative approach in all of our endeavors — from our owner to our part-time contributors and everyone in between. This team-first approach allows us to transform obstacles into triumphs and conquer any challenge we face.

Partnering with the Environmental Justice Alliance

We aren’t only dedicated to our clients and team members; we’re also passionate about improving the health, safety, and appearance of historically underserved communities in the Washington Metropolitan area. This has led us to partner with the Environmental Justice Alliance, with whom we share a belief that all people deserve:

  • Protection from environmental and health hazards.
  • Access to a healthy environment in which to live, learn, and work.
  • The opportunity to participate in environmental decision-making that impacts their communities.

RTEC Treecare: Dedicated to Sustainability

Since first launching RTEC Treecare in 1996, we’ve not only considered sustainability to be important but a shared responsibility. To ensure we do our part to help protect the planet, we’ve established a number of eco-friendly practices that help reduce the amount of waste we produce, protect natural ecosystems, and manage resources in a sustainable manner.

These efforts have included:

  • Promoting the use of highly targeted, organic pest treatments that minimize harm to pollinators and beneficial insects.
  • Opting for digital record keeping, invoicing, and correspondence whenever possible to reduce the amount of paper we use.
  • Launching recycling initiatives, such as composting tree debris produced from our work, to reduce the amount of waste that reaches landfills.
  • Working with the National Park Service on a variety of park and waterway conservation projects, as well as civic projects in the Metro DC area.

Industry Recognition, Accreditations, & Accolades

The best measure of a service provider’s skill can often be found in the opinions of its peers, partners, and competitors. That’s part of the reason the RTEC Treecare team is so proud to have earned tree-industry accreditations and been repeatedly recognized by others in the tree-care industry and local business community.

A few of the most notable examples include:

  • We are accredited by the Tree Care Industry Association (TCIA). In fact, we were the first tree-care company in Virginia to receive this honor.
  • Our arborists are ISA-certified, which requires them to not only demonstrate considerable skill and experience but also pass a comprehensive written examination.
  • We’re a 12-time winner of the TCIA Excellence in Arboriculture Award.
  • We’ve been recognized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security twice and remain the only tree company to receive its Small Business Achievement Award (which we’ve earned twice).
  • We have won three TCIA Marketing and Communications Awards, which helps demonstrate our commitment to education and honest communication with our clients.
  • We’re leaders in the Fairfax County business community and have been recognized for our significant sustainability efforts.

The RTEC Treecare Difference

Choosing a tree-care or environmental service partner is not something that should be based solely on cost, convenience, or happenstance. This is especially true given the lasting effects your decision will have on your trees, property, and the greater ecosystem.

But we hope that the following characteristics help to distinguish us from the crowd and give you the confidence to trust RTEC Treecare for all of your plant, tree, and environmental needs.

We Care.

The entire RTEC Treecare team — including our owner, arborists, service technicians, and support staff — care for each other, our clients, the broader community, and the trees that make up our shared canopy.

We’re Committed.

We strive to establish long-term relationships with our clients and provide the kind of solutions necessary for sustained and lasting plant, tree, and environmental health.

We’re Qualified.

Arboriculture, plant health care, and environmental restoration are all complex disciplines requiring the kind of skill, training, and experience our team embodies.
